Why are carbon credits used?

The road to net-zero: Whilst reductions are the key goal to staving off the worst effects of climate change, most experts agree that carbon credits are a part of any net-zero goals.

Carbon credits help protect the environment, and income from selling credits helps to stop deforestation, providing greener energy in countries where fossil fuels are still the predominant source.

On the supply side, project developers are incentivised to produce carbon credits in order to improve a local area, provide funding to locals and reduce overall emissions.

On the demand side, carbon credits can be purchased by motivated individuals or businesses to offset unavoidable carbon emissions. Moreover, they are an essential tool for businesses and individuals to become truly Net Zero. Today it simply isn't possible for most people to become entirely Net Zero without their use.

Individuals can calculate the emissions from a flight or their yearly carbon footprint and buy enough carbon credits to offset it.

CLNK would always advocate for anyone to seek all means to reduce their impact on the environment before seeking to offset any remaining impact that cannot be mitigated at this point and looking for ways to reduce their reliance on credits over time.
